Day 1

Arrive in Owen Sound today, and start your tour at Inglis Falls (Inglis Falls Rd south of town) where the Sydenham river cascades over the limestone ledges.  Hike the short Pines Loop trail through the forest, or the longer and more strenuous loop to Harrison Park and back.  Next, travel north of the city to Indian Falls.  A short hike (0.8km) will reveal a horseshoe shaped falls. (Please note the trail to Indian Falls may not be passable in extreme wet conditions).  Your waterfall tour will end at scenic Jones Falls, where the Pottawatami River cascades 12 metres over the Niagara Escarpment to the pool below.

Day 2

After a leisurely breakfast, head for Wiarton (Hwy 6 north, or the scenic route along Grey Rd 1), making sure to check out Skinner’s Bluff (accessible off Grey Road 26 and township roads 23-24 and 20-21) on the way.  A short but rigorous hike on the Bruce Trail will lead you to this magnificent bluff for a spectacular view of the surrounding rural landscape and Georgian Bay.  When you’re finished, make your way up the Bruce Peninsula to Tobermory (Hwy 6 North).  Stop at the Parks Canada Visitor Centre, and climb the look-out tower for a bird’s eye view of Georgian Bay.  Spend the rest of the afternoon, wandering the streets and watching the boat traffic in this picturesque fishing village.

Day 3

Hit the water today and go exploring.  Book a glass bottom boat tour to Flowerpot Island with the Blue Heron Company, and enjoy the scenery while you tour Fathom Five, Canada’s first National Marine Park.  Once on Flowerpot Island, make the trek to the former lightkeeper’s quarters and stand atop White Bluff where the lighthouse once stood.  When you’re finished exploring, board the boat back to the harbour and make your way to Bruce Peninsula National Park (Hwy 6 South).  Park in the Head of Trails parking lot and hike the main trail for extraordinary views of the Niagara Escarpment and the Georgian Bay coast.   Be sure to check out the Grotto, a natural sea cave formed by 100s of years of Georgian Bay wave action.  When you’re finished, return to Tobermory for one more night of rest or relaxation, or you’re on your way home until your next Georgian Bay Coastal Route adventure.
