Cabot Head Lighthouse & Museum
The two-story keeper's house at Cabot Head is a large, white clapboard-sided structure with a small addition at the rear. Bright red trim surrounds doors, windows, and a pair of pretty dormers, but the tower was removed from the red shingled roof long ago and its whereabouts or fate is unknown. A wide expanse of unadorned lawn surrounds the building, and a fringe of bushes buffers the yard from Georgian Bay. Nearby, a white steel tower, built in 1989, rises more than 40 feet to a wide platform that holds a large, automated beacon. The lighthouse is within Cabot Head Provincial Nature Reserve. The keeper's dwelling was restored by the Friends of Cabot Head is now home to a museum of local history and maritime artifacts. Open from sunrise to sunset, seven days a week from May to October. Visitors may also climb to the lantern room (removed in 1971 and replaced by a replica lantern) for a view of the Georgian Bay.
